IELTS Reading Tips and Strategies
Work on your reading speed:
First of all, you should increase your reading speed, this will make it easier for you to finish the reading test on time, and you will not panic at the time of the exam. Therefore, try not to spend more than 15-16 minutes on your first passage, 16-17 minutes on the second two, and utilize the remaining time to solve the questions from passage 3. The main reason behind this schedule is that passage 3 has the highest difficulty level among all three sections. The best way to improve your reading skill is by reading newspapers, online blogs, and books. Just make sure you must read something that you enjoy. It will help improve your reading skills because time is the key.
Please don’t stick to a single question:
Sometimes, we are reading, and we get stuck on a question, but then we start to prove that nothing is impossible, and we waste many more minutes on the same question.
You need to understand that you have 40 questions to solve within a limited time. If there are one or two difficult questions, then please do not sacrifice the remaining 38 questions for the sake of a few. In such a situation, skip the tricky questions, and try not to spend more than a minute on a single question. After finishing all the other questions, return to solve those you had skipped.
If you stick to a single question for too long, you will get panic and nervous later when you are left with so little time. This way, you will ruin the entire exam. Therefore, move on to the next question and return in the end to solve the tough ones.
Please pay attention to the synonyms:
When you do a reading test, you start finding similar words in the paragraph that you had marked in the question, sometimes you get the answer quickly due to that one keyword, but many times they have used synonyms of that keyword in the passage. Please beware of that.
Therefore, I advise you to enhance your vocabulary, and you can do it by reading your favourite content.

- Flow-chart Completion (selecting words from the text)
- Identifying information (True False Not Given)
- Matching sentence endings task
- Multiple choice (more than one answer)

- Summary completion (selecting words from the text)
