There are four modules in the IELTS test: Listening Speaking Writing Reading

IELTS Listening

The IELTS Listening test will take about 30 minutes, and you will have an extra 10 minutes to transfer your answers to the answer sheet. Listen to the instructions for each section of the test carefully. Answer all of the questions. There are 40 questions altogether. Each question carries one mark. In general, there are 6 types of questions in the Listening section. Prepare IELTS online, we have added some of the important question types from the Listening module. For example:

IELTS Reading

Reading is the second part of the IELTS test and takes 60 minutes. It consists of three or sometimes four reading passages of increasing difficulty, and there is a total of 40 questions to answer. The Academic and General Training Reading Tests are graded to the same level. You would be asked different types of questions. For example:

  • Multiple-choice questions
  • Information matching
  • Information identification questions
  • Matching Headings
  • Sentence completion
  • Summary completion
  • Features matching
  • Matching sentence endings
  • Short answer questions
  • Matching information

IELTS Speaking

In the Speaking test, you have a discussion with a certified Examiner. It is interactive and as close to a real-life situation as a test can get. The test is 11 to 14 minutes long with three parts.

  • In Part 1, you answer questions about yourself, your family, your work and your interests.
  • In Part 2, you speak about a topic. You will be given a cue card which asks you to speak about a particular topic and includes points that you can cover in your talk, you will be given 1 minute to prepare your answer and then you have to speak for 1-2 minutes.
  • In Part 3, you have a longer discussion on the topic. The examiner will ask you some follow up questions and most of them would be connected to the topic in Part 2.

The Speaking test is the same for both Academic and General Training tests.
